Tesla Motors announced three offerings related to its Model S all-electric sedan Friday, and updated progress on its next two cars. CEO Elon Musk said in a conference call that the company would offer an upgraded 90 KWH battery in the Model S for $3,000, drop the price for a single-motor Model S to $70,000, and upgrade the Model S to "ludicrous mode," which allows for 0-to-60 acceleration in 2.8 seconds. Greece Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday reshuffled his cabinet, news reports said. The move was widely expected after two cabinet members and other members of Tsipras's own Syriza pary voted against the austerity plan the country agreed to in return for a third bailout.

Gold futures settled on Friday at their lowest level in more than five years, hit by a selloff by a large trader, according to an analyst, as China revealed its gold holdings for the first time since 2009. August gold shed $12, or 1.1%, to settle at $1,131.90 an ounce for the Comex session. It lost about 2.3% for the week.

Shares of CF Industries Holding Inc. rallied Friday following a report that the fertilizer company was in late talks to merger with Dutch company OCI NV . CF Industries shares jumped 6.2% to $66.59 on heavy volume. Shares were halted briefly on volatility following the report. CF and OCI could reach an agreement as early as this month, The Wall Street Journal reported.

U.S. oil-rig count falls after rising over the last two weeks The total number of active U.S. rigs drilling for oil fell as of July 17, according to data from Baker Hughes released Friday. The number of active oil drilling rigs saw a weekly decline of 7 to 638. The total active rig count, which also includes natural-gas rigs, was at 857, down 6. Compared to last year, the total rig count has fallen by 1,014, with the oil rig count down 916. August crude was down 33 cents, or 0.7%, at $50.58 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Tesla Motors Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted earlier Friday a conference call scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern will be about a "Model S product." MarketWatch will be live-blogging the call. Shares of Etsy Inc. skyrocketed more than 24% on Friday following a hat-tip by Google Inc. on the company's earnings conference call late Thursday. Google specifically named Etsy as one of the developers seeing a boost in traffic as part of Google's efforts to use indexing to help people find what they need within third-party apps. "Developers like Etsy are already seeing a boost in traffic as a result of deep linking," said Omid Kordestani, Google's chief business officer. EU approves emergency $7.7 billion bridge loan to Greece

The EU has approved a bridge loan of 7.16 billion euros ($7.76 billion) for Greece, giving the debt-stricken country breathing room to push ahead with its bid for a third bailout. The short-term financial assistance, made under the European Financial Stabilisation Mechanism (EFSM), will have a maximum maturity of three months and be delivered in two installments, the Council of Europe said in a statement. Best Buy Co.'s stock slumped 5.8% in morning trade Friday, after Bank of America Merrill Lynch did an about-face and turned bearish on the consumer electronics retailer, citing concerns that sales will be weak over the second half of the year. Analyst Denise Chai downgraded the stock to the lowest underperform rating, after being at the highest buy rating for the last 18 months. UMich sentiment index falls more than expected

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Consumer sentiment fell to a preliminary July reading of 93.3 from a final June level of 96.1, according to reports on the University of Michigan gauge released Friday. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected a July figure of 95. Economists follow readings on confidence to look for clues about consumer spending, the backbone of the economy. For context, the consumer-sentiment gauge averaged 86.9 over the year leading up to the recession.

Analysts at Susquehanna Financial Group set a $75 price target for PayPal, which will begin trading on Monday under the ticker PYPL on the NASDAQ, following its split from eBay Inc. after today's close. Susquehanna analyst James Friedman wrote in a note that the company's roadmap suggests that PayPal has large ambitions as it pursues a strategy for broader merchant acceptance and increased consumer usage. Honeywell International Inc. shares soared 4.5% in premarket trade, after the industrial conglomerate reported better-than-expected second-quarter earnings and raised its full-year outlook. Honeywell said it earned $1.22 billion, or $1.51 a share, up from $1.13 billion, or $1.38 a share, in the year-earlier period. Sales eased back to $9.78 billion from $10.25 billion. The Boeing Company said Friday it will book an after-tax charge of $536 million, or 77 cents a share, in the second quarter, due to higher-than-expected costs related to its KC-46 tanker aircraft. WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The consumer price index rose a seasonally adjusted 0.3% in June, spurred by rising costs for housing, gasoline and food such as eggs, the government said Friday. That matched the forecast of economists polled by MarketWatch. Energy prices rose 1.7% and food prices increased 0.3%, the Labor Department said. Excluding food and energy, so-called core consumer prices rose 0.2% in June. WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Housing starts in the U.S. jumped 10% in June to an annual pace of 1.17 million, led by a surge in construction on complexes with five units or more. Construction on multi-dwelling projects soared to the highest level since 1987, the Commerce Department reported Friday. Economists polled by MarketWatch had expected housing starts to rise to a seasonally adjusted 1.11 million.
