CROWLEY, La (KLFY) -- In Acadia Parish, a Crowley man has been arrested and over 24 pounds of methamphetamine has been seized.
Acadia Parish Sheriff Deputies say this is one of the largest narcotic recoveries their office has made in years. Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 34-year-old Gilbert Joseph of Crowley. Joseph faces multiple charges, involving narcotics and a firearm.
Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson says when deputies pulled Joseph over during a traffic stop, about 24 pounds of methamphetamine and a firearm was found. With a street value of over $200,000, Gibson says it's not the largest recovery his office has had, but it is one of the biggest his office has made since he has been sheriff.
"It stays up on top of my head, memory as far as one of the biggest ones that we've had since I've been sheriff," said Gibson. "I know that there's probably others that may have been bigger, but the goal of what we want to do is we'd love to see as much drugs, obviously, off the streets."
Joseph is charged with possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm, the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of legend drugs, and illegal window tint. Joseph is currently booked in the Acadia Parish Jail awaiting bond.
Gibson says he wants the public to know his office is diligent in its fight against drugs.
"Well, I mean, we just know that its an everyday battle, we're not going to stop. And we want to make sure that everybody's families are taking care of to the best of our ability. We'll continue fighting as long as we're in office and doing everything we can," said Gibson.
