According to Afghan officials, 23 immigrants, including women and children, have been released from Karachi’s prisons and have entered the country.
Abdul Jabbar Takhari, the acting consul general in Pakistan, said in a video posted on X on Friday, May 24, that around 40 other Afghan citizens are in the prisons of Sindh province, Pakistan, and efforts are ongoing for their release.
He emphasized that so far, 4,228 people, including women and children, have been released from prisons in various provinces of Pakistan and have been transferred to Afghanistan.
According to Takhari, the deadline set by the Pakistani government for the expulsion of Afghan refugees is until the end of June, and he expressed hope that Pakistan will extend the deadline for Afghan refugees.
This comes as the process of expelling and detaining Afghan refugees from Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey has increased in recent months.
Last week, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of the acting government also reported the expulsion of nearly 1,000 Afghan refugees and the release of 12 prisoners.
Previously, Pakistani government officials have cited the lack of legal documents as the reason for the arrest of dozens of Afghan refugees.
According to Pakistani media reports, since the beginning of the expulsion process of Afghan refugees from the country, about half a million people have been expelled and have returned to Afghanistan.
