The Ministry of Migrants and Repatriates of Afghanistan has announced the forced deportation of 200 Afghan migrants from Pakistan.
The ministry stated on Monday, March 11, on its social media platform X that these migrants returned to the country via the Torkham border crossing.
Additionally, the ministry mentioned that another two thousand migrants returned to the country, both forcibly and voluntarily, from Iran.
It is worth noting that most of the returning migrants have reunited with their families, with 635 individuals identified as in need of assistance, according to the ministry. However, amidst these returns, the plight of Afghan migrants in Iran and Pakistan remains a pressing issue.
In Pakistan, over a million undocumented Afghan migrants are facing expulsion, leading to a dire humanitarian crisis. The harsh winter exacerbates their suffering, as they lack adequate shelter, food, and medical assistance. Many families are forcibly separated, adding to the anguish of displacement.
Similarly, in Iran, Afghan migrants endure appalling conditions, including overcrowded and unsanitary living quarters, and limited access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. The recent forced deportations only worsen their predicament, especially during the unforgiving winter months.
Amidst these challenges, the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan and Iran raises serious humanitarian concerns. Without proper support and assistance, these vulnerable individuals and families face immense hardships, including exposure to harsh weather conditions and a lack of basic necessities. Immediate action is needed to address their plight and ensure their safety and well-being.
