Amid Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestine, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Egypt to discuss the situation. Erdogan’s trip, reported by Turkish media on Thursday, marked his first visit to Egypt in 12 years.
During this visit, the Turkish President stated that the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza was their first topic of discussion.
He emphasized, “We continue our cooperation and strive in solidarity with our Egyptian brothers to end the massacre in Gaza.”
Erdogan prioritizes Gaza humanitarian crisis in talks with Egypt. He vows continued cooperation for peace and stability, pledging solidarity with Egyptian counterparts to end bloodshed in Gaza.
This trip comes amid severed relations between Egypt and Turkey following the 2012 coup against Mohamed Morsi.
President Erdogan pledged to increase trade with Egypt to $15 billion shortly. He highlighted ongoing evaluations of energy and defense cooperation between the two nations.
“I’d like to emphasize the continued connection between our peoples, over the past ten years, while our trade and investment relationship saw steady growth,” Sisi said as cited by Reuters.
Ankara and Cairo’s relations soured in 2013 when Egypt’s former army chief Sisi removed Mohamed Mursi, an ally of Turkey, from power. Mursi, who was Egypt’s first democratically elected president, had been ousted after a year in office.
