6 picturesque photos of Josef Newgarden's 2024 Indy 500 milk celebration
For the first time in 22 years, there's a back-to-back Indy 500 champ in Josef Newgarden.
There’s no sports celebration in the world like the one at the end of the Indianapolis 500 — especially when you remember the winner celebrates with an ice-cold bottle of milk.
With only a few of the 200 laps left at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Josef Newgarden traded the lead back and forth with Alexander Rossi and Pato O’Ward. But in a brilliant last-lap move, the No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet driver powered past O’Ward for the lead and ultimately his second straight Indy 500 victory.
Newgarden is just the sixth driver to win consecutive Indy 500s and the 11th driver to be a two-time winner. The last back-to-back Indy 500 champ was Hélio Castroneves in 2001 and 2002.
Like his 2023 Indy 500 win, Newgarden climbed into the stands to celebrate with fans. And then came the milk.
Also like last year, Newgarden’s picked whole milk and celebrated with a bottle after his second straight Indy 500 win. Here are some photos of his post-win milk celebration.
