WATCH: Baker Mayfield clarifies what he said about Daniel Jones in GQ
Baker Mayfield is clarifying a quote critiquing New York Giants first-round draft pick Daniel Jones.
Baker Mayfield is good for going against the grain — the Cleveland Browns quarterback historically shares his opinions regardless of their popularity and will be the bad guy with ease.
Tuesday, though, he is clarifying a quote critiquing New York Giants first-round draft pick Daniel Jones.
Mayfield is quoted in a feature in GQ as saying, ““I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones. Blows my mind,” then later with, “Some people overthink it. That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win.”
Barstool Sports is one of many digital outlets that shared the former Oklahoma Heisman Winner’s comments. On the account’s Instagram post, Mayfield left a long comment explaining his perspective.
“This is not what I said… just so we’re clear,” Mayfield wrote. “I also said I was surprised I got drafted number one. Then was talking about the flaws in evaluating QB’s. Where I brought up winning is important. Reporters and media will do anything to come up with a clickbait story. Heard nothing but good things and wish nothing but the best for Daniel.”
