Bachelorette Power Rankings: Is there a happy ending for Hannah B.?
Has Luke P. already ruined the season for Hannah B., or is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
Hannah B. called her own shots during hometown week on The Bachelorette, and gave all four remaining men roses to progress to fantasy suites in Greece. Luke P. is still alive, much to the dismay of his competitors, but has he already derailed the show to the point of no return? We’ll be recapping each episode and ranking all the contestants weekly on FTW.
1. Luke P.
Last week: Forever last
Look, we all know that Luke P. is going home next week after telling Hannah that he’d walk away if he found out that she’s had sex during the show. Hannah has, of course (in a windmill!) (twice!), and we’ll finally get to collectively celebrate the demise of Luke P. – but I think it’s fairly clear after hometowns that if Luke had kept his mouth relatively shut, he would have won this season.
Luke has received the ultimate pass from Hannah throughout the season – remember, he’s already shamed Hannah for revealing herself to Garrett just a few weeks ago – and he seemed to be in the strongest position exiting hometowns. Luke rigged his daytime date perfectly, and found dozens of people who were willing to say nice things about him. Hannah remarked that it was a refreshing change from the usual harassment Luke receives.
Luke’s friends on Luke:
- “He’s just the nicest dude.”
- “He’s the real deal.”
- “So hospitable.”
Upon meeting Luke’s family, Hannah recapped all the issues she’s had with him, and even admitted that she didn’t have “a real conversation beyond me getting on him” for weeks, yet he still remains.
Later in the date, Luke told Hannah that he loves her, and Hannah warned Luke not to screw up, or she’ll hurt him. Fortunately for Hannah, Luke screws up – because if he didn’t, I have no confidence that she would have given the final rose to anyone else. Can we please get a do-over on the entire season?
Moment of the night: Luke’s dad opened up his conversation with his son by saying “I hate to think of people being critical of you.” This season must have been a nightmare for him.
It has to be mentioned again: ABC has ruined what could have been an epic twist during fantasy suite week. Imagine you had never seen the preview of Hannah B. kicking Luke off the show, which has been aired a handful of times already this season. You’d probably think he has a legitimate chance to win! Luke P.’s exit should have been a glorious surprise that would have broken Bachelorette Twitter. Instead, we already know what happens.
2. Tyler C.
Last week: 2
Tyler aced his hometown date in Jupiter, Florida, and was the only contestant to emerge with zero red flags from hometowns. Hannah admitted in a confessional that she was concerned Tyler might not be ready to take the next step and embrace an engagement, but Tyler’s family members said all the right things to assuage Hannah.
Tyler’s dad, who may have been the MVP of the episode, and he told Hannah that she would have the full support of Tyler’s family if she decides to pursue a relationship with him. He also delivered the line of the night:
Tyler’s dad: “You can’t plan to fall in love, it just hits you right between the eyes.”
3. Peter
Last week: 1
Peter, who is looking for a “co-pilot for life,” took Hannah on a plane ride around Los Angeles and flew by the Bachelor mansion.
Peter seems to be all-in on Hannah, and even got choked up delivering a toast to Hannah before a meal with the family, but he hasn’t been able to tell Hannah that he’s in love with her. Even at the end of their date, Peter giddily reiterated how happy he was, but fell short of dropping the L-bomb – which Hannah seemed to be expecting. At some point, Peter’s going to have to go beyond repeatedly telling Hannah how “perfect” their day was while giggling. Every week he holds back his feelings, he’s losing ground to the rest of the pack.
Also, what is Peter afraid of at this point, anyway? He says that he doesn’t want to have his heart broken, but does he think he’ll be able to walk away at this point without any heartache just because he didn’t say “I love you”? You’re about three weeks too late for that, Peter.
4. Jed
Last week: 4
Jed, the guy who admitted to Hannah that he was excited to go on The Bachelorette to advance his music career and takes any opportunity to show off his musical skill, brought Hannah into a studio so they could write a song together.
There’s some important context to remember surrounding Jed’s hometown date. It has been reported that Jed was in a committed relationship at the time he left to film The Bachelorette – so it makes sense that his family members were questioning the legitimacy of his relationship with Hannah. Hannah even brought up Jed’s past relationships in a conversation with his mother. Her answer was…. vague, to say the least.
Hannah: “I know he dated a girl for a long time.”
Jed’s mom: “He lived his life.”
Jed’s sister went as far as to say that Jed falling for Hannah might not be a “good thing.”
Jed’s sister to Hannah: “Him potentially falling in love with you, I’m not sure it’s a good thing.”
Jed’s mom to Jed: “It doesn’t feel very realistic to me, but you’re the one living it”
Hannah left Tennessee wondering whether Jed was ready to take the next step, and, hilariously, whether she would be obstructing his music career.
Hannah: “My relationship or his music will suffer”
This isn’t some budding country music superstar we’re talking about. He has 296 subscribers on YouTube, Hannah. You’re not getting in the way of anything.
