Baker Mayfield bought Saquon Barkley a 'QUADS' chain to settle a bet
Baker Mayfield paid up in a big way to settle a Rookie of the Year bet.
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and Giants running back Saquon Barkley each enjoyed stellar rookie campaigns, and the two players placed a friendly wager ahead of the annual NFL Honors show in February. Barkley revealed at the time that the winner of the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award would receive a chain from the loser.
Via Cleveland.com:
“We’ve got a little bet. Hopefully I’ll win that bet. But like I said, I can’t say anything bad about him. I respect him as a player and as a person.’
…. It’s for a chain. The loser’s got to get someone else a chain. We get to pick the chain and we get to have fun with it because obviously everyone’s talking about who’s going to win, and at the end of the day we’d love to see each other win, but we’d also love to see ourselves win too, but we made a little bet with it just to show how friendly we are that it’s bigger than just the award.'”
Mayfield put up a strong Rookie of the Year case for the award following his strong finish to the season after the departure of Hue Jackson, but Barkley earned the honor after setting a NFL record for most yards from scrimmage by a rookie. Barkley was a Pro Bowl selection in 2018, and his 1,307 rushing yards was the second-highest total in the NFL, behind only Ezekiel Elliott.
Mayfield delivered on his end of the bet with an incredible “QUADS” chain.
