Jeopardy! Tracker: James Holzhauer's final stats, cash totals after 32-game win streak
For one last time, here's a look at James Holzhauer's final stats from his incredible run on Jeopardy!
James Holzhauer — the professional sports gambler from Las Vegas — continues to wreak havoc on Jeopardy!, racking up money totals in each game that have been all but unseen in the show’s history. His style will undoubtedly (or hopefully) change the way the game is played for future contestants.
But his incredible run came to an end on the June 3 episode. Throughout it, however, we created the Holzhauer Roundup: A daily look at what he did the night before and overall during his remarkable winning streak.
Here’s what you need to know about Holzhauer’s streak and final appearance on Jeopardy!
Win streak
Holzhauer won 32 consecutive games through the episode that aired Friday, May 31. He lost his 33rd game to 27-year-old University of Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher in Monday’s episode.
Cash totals
Holzhauer entered Monday’s game with a $2,462,216 32-day cash total, which put him a little less than $60,000 away from past Jeopardy! star Ken Jennings’ all-time record of $2,520,700. But after losing, Holzhauer finished his run with $2,462,216 in winnings — $58,484 behind Jennings’ record. Not too shabby.
Single-game winnings
Holzhauer finished his run as the owner of all top-10 spots in the record books. On his fourth show, which aired in early April, he first destroyed the single-game record by winning $110,914, a mark which he would later break multiple times. His single-game record is $131,127 from the April 17 episode, in which he had a perfect game.
Here are the top-10 single-game totals, all of which are owned by Holzhauer:
1. $131,127 (April 17, 2019)
2. $130,022 (May 27, 2019)
3. $118,816 (April 23, 2019)
4. $110,914 (April 9, 2019)
5. $106,181 (April 16, 2019)
6. $101,682 (May 1, 2019)
7. $96,726 (April 30, 2019)
8. $90,812 (April 25, 2019)
9. $90,812 (April 22, 2019)
10. $89,229 (May 20, 2019)
Final Jeopardy!
In an unusual position, Holzhauer trailed Boettcher slightly going into Final Jeopardy. She had $26,600 going into the final clue, Holzhauer had $23,400 and the third player, Jay Sexton, had $11,000.
The Final Jeopardy category was Shakespeare’s Time, and the clue was:
The line ‘a great reckonings in a little room’ in ‘As You Like It’ is usually taken to refer to this author’s premature death.
The correct answer is Christopher Marlowe, and all three got the question right.
However, Holzhauer knew the strategy Boettcher would employ in Final Jeopardy, which led him to bet a surprisingly low amount of money, given his history for massive bets. He wagered $1,399, and had Boettcher gotten the question wrong, Holzhauer almost certainly would have won with a bet just large enough to beat Sexton. But Boettcher had the right answer and wagered enough to beat Holzhauer even if he went all in.
And that’s the end of James Holzhauer’s astonishing run on Jeopardy!
