Match Preview: The first leg at Old Trafford will most likely be the most important match. Barça has lost only once at Camp Nou all season, and that was six months ago. Although United did pull off a miracle comeback against PSG in the Round of 16, Barça is almost unstoppable at home at the Red Devils must get a really good result at home to have a realistic shot at the semifinals.
Thankfully for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer most of the United injury problems are over, and he’ll be able to have Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial – United’s best players since the new manager took over – on the pitch and ready to lead their team to a famous win. The crowd at Old Trafford will be ready to create an unbelievable atmosphere, and the first few minutes should bring a barrage of pressure from the home team.
If Barcelona can navigate that crazy start and their midfield is able to calm things down and establish their dominance, then the Blaugrana could run away with this one. Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez have caught fire at the right time this season, and Ousmane Dembélé has recovered from injury in time to at least be on the bench and give Ernesto Valverde another great option.
Man Utd XI: De Gea; Young, Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw; Matic, McTominay, Pogba; Lingard, Rashford, Martial
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Busquets, Rakitic, Arthur, Vidal; Messi, Suarez
This will be a fascinating battle: Barça is the best team and the favorite to advance, but United will relish the underdog role and have a huge history in this competition. This will be a great night of European soccer.
