Aachen – Dressur: Ein Kür-Sonntag zum Verlieben
Ein großartiger Vormittag. 15 Küren von den Besten der Welt. 2 Standing Ovations – und ganz viele wunderbare Momente. Das war die Grand Prix Kür, der Deutsche Bank Preis von Aachen.
A great morning. 15 freestyles, performed by world’s best riders. 2 standing ovations – and so many simply great moments. This was the Grand Prix Freestyle, the Deutsche Bank price in Aachen.
Am Ende konnte sie sich über einen weiteren Sieg freuen – den in der Kür. Und natürlich über den Großen Dressurpreis von Aachen und einen Platz auf der ewigen Siegertafel: Jessica von Bredow-Werndl mit Dalera. Mit ihrer Kür zu Chansons von Edith Piaf und einem Tribut an Paris (ja, da finden im kommenden Jahr die Olympischen Spiele statt) begeisterte die Nummer 1 der Weltrangliste nicht nur die Zuschauer im Deutsche Bank Stadion, sondern auch die Richter: A-Noten von 83,0% – 86,25% und B-Noten von 93% bis 99,2% mündeten in einer Gesamtnote von 90,82% für eine Prüfung, in der jeder Tritt saß (o.k., beim Einreiten hob Dalera wieder das rechte Hinterbein, aber sei’s drum) und die auch vom technischen Schwierigkeitsgrad (starker Galopp mündet in Pirouetten, Passage-Traversale – Piaffe – Passage-Traversale als Schlusslinie) durchaus ansehnlich war. Und Jessica von Bredow-Werndl wird sich Edith Piaf anschließen: Non, je ne regrette rien!
Doch die Konkurrenz schläft nicht und um den zweiten Platz gab es ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen. Dieses Mal hatte die Dänin Nanna Skodborg Merrald mit Blue Hors Zepter die Nase vorn. Ihre Kür begann mit „Time to say good-bye“, aber die Blue Hors-Chefbereiterin sagte nicht good-bye, sondern hat sich in der Weltspitze voll etabliert. Das Ergebnis von 88,730% (A-Noten 79,5% – 86,25% und B-Noten 90,8% – 98,4%) war absolut angemessen für diese vollständig harmonische Runde voller Leichtigkeit.
Knapp dahinter wurde Groß-Britanniens zweifache Olympiasiegerin Charlotte Dujardin im Sattel von Imhotep Dritte mit 88,415% (A-Noten 80% – 85%, B-Noten 91% – 97%). Imhotep ging auf die legendäre Valegro-Kür zur Musik aus „Drachenzähmen leicht gemacht“. Übrigens ging Pete, so Imhoteps Stallname, in Aachen die erst dritte(!) Grand-Prix Kür seines Lebens und man hatte zunächst Bedenken, ob der kleine Fuchs den großen Hufspuren seines ikonischen Stallkollegen gerecht werden könnte. Er konnte! Unglaublich, welche technischen Schwierigkeiten dieser erst Zehnjährige schon abspult. Für die Europameisterschaft, so erzählte Charlotte Dujardin später, bekommt Imhotep aber eine neue Musik. Seien wir gespannt!
Und die nächste Charlotte folgte direkt dahinter: Rang 4 für Weltmeisterin Charlotte Fry und Everdale mit einem Gesamtergebnis von 87,575% (A-Noten 79,25% – 84,25%, B-Noten 90,2 – 96%) nach einer sehr präzisen Vorstellung mit einem kleinen Haken eingangs der Piaff-Pirouette.
Die schlussendlich Fünftplatzierte bekam die zweite standing ovation in Aachen – die erfolgreichste Dressurreiterin der Welt, Isabell Werth mit Quantaz, jenes Duo, welches ja 2021 den Großen Dressurpreis gewonnen hatte. Der jetzt 13-jährige Quaterback-Sohn zeigte in der Kür seine beste Runde vom diesjährigen Aachen-Auftritt und der technische Schwierigkeitsgrad von Isabell Werths Küren ist einfach unerreicht hoch. Ein wenig unverständlich, dass die Richter den technischen Schwierigkeitsgrad mit Wertnoten zwischen 9,1 und 9,8 bewertet haben – welche technischen Schwierigkeiten wollen sie denn noch sehen? Ein Lopping? Quantaz jedenfalls war gut drauf, zeigte am Ende der Einerwechsel allerdings einen kleinen Sprung nach vorne. Der schlechte Schritt fällt auf der gebogenen Linie nicht so dolle auf, also ist alles gut. 84,84% total (A-Noten 74,25% – 82,75%, B-Noten 90% – 96,8%) und die zufriedene Bemerkung von Isabell nach der Prüfung: „Ich bin super zufrieden. Quantaz hat sich zuletzt immer ein bisschen rausgegockelt, dann haben wir ihn nach Balve schön über den Rücken gearbeitet und das hat sich ausgezahlt. Jetzt müssen wir nur noch die Wechselfehler abstellen und dann passt das.“ Hört sich ganz einfach an.
Es folgten auf den weiteren Plätzen: Frederic Wandres mit Bluetooth, dem man die lange Aachen-Woche mit bereits zwei dicken Prüfungen ein kleines bisschen anmerkte, kam auf 84,48% – bei den Glockenschlägen während der Pirouetten musste man ganz unwillkürlich an die Kür eines schwarzen Hengstes in der gleichen Prüfung in Aachen im Jahr 2010 denken.
Mit 84,25% kam die Schwedin Therese Nilshagen mit Dante Weltino knapp dahinter auf Rang 7. Dieser Score ist ein „personal best“ für das routinierte Paar, allerdings nach einer nicht fehlerfreien Prüfung – die Rechtspirouette (doppelt angelegt) misslang, da griffen vier Richter zur Note 4, lediglich Edouard de Wolff van Westerode vergab eine 7,5.
Auf Rang 8 folgt Carina Cassoe Krüth mit Danciera (81,975%), gefolgt von ihrem Landsmann Andreas Helgstrand, der den imposanten Jovian in Aachen erheblich relaxter vorstellte als noch im Vorjahr (81,670%). Die top ten komplettierte Schwedens Patrik Kittel mit Forever Young (81,210%).
Seien wir gespannt auf die Europameisterschaften im September – es wird spannend!
At the end, she could enjoy another win – this time in the freestyle to music. And naturally the victory in the Great Dressage Price of Aachen as well as her name on the eternal winner’s board: Jessica von Bredow-Werndl with Dalera. With her freestyle on Edith Piaf’s chansons as well as a tribute to Paris (yes, next year’s Olympics are taking place there) world’s number 1 thrilled not only the audience in the Deutsche Bank stadium, but also the judges: A-scores between 83,0% and 86,25% and B-scores between 93% and 99,2% resulted in an overall score of 90,82% for a test in which everything fitted like a T (o.k., at the entry and halt just at the beginning, Dalera again lifted her right hind leg, but so what) and where also the technical degree of difficulty was quite high (extended canter into a pirouette and passage half-passes into a piaffe and again passage half-passes as last line). And Jessica von Bredow-Werndl could agree to Edith Piaf: Non, je ne regrette rien!
But the competition never rests and there was a nip-and-tuck-race for the runner-up spot. This time, Denmark’s Nanna Skodborg Merrald and Blue Hors Zepter finished in silver position. Her freestyle music started with „Time to say good-bye“, but the Blue Hors chief rider doesn’t say good-bye, but has herself settled quite well on the top of the tops. A results of 88,730% (A-scores 79,5% – 86,25% and B-scores 90,8% – 98,4%) was absolutely appropriate for such a round full of harmony and easiness.
With a tiny margin behind, two-times Olympic champion Charlotte Dujardin riding Imhotep finished third with a final score of 88,415% (A-scores 80% – 85%, B-scores 91% – 97%)). Imhotep made his round on the freestyle music of the legendary Valegro (from ‚How to tame a dragon‘). By the way, it was Imhotep’s third-only Grand Prix freestyle in his entire life in Aachen! And first, one had some reservations if the small chestnut gelding would fullfill the hoofsteps of his worldfamous stablemate. But: he did it! It was nearly unbelievable which technical difficulties he could already show in Aachen. For the European championships he will get his own music, Charlotte Dujardin told lateron. Let’s look forward!
And the next Charlotte followed directly behind – 4th place for world champion Charlotte Fry and Everdale with a total result of 87,575% (A-scores 79,25% – 84,25%, B-score 90,2% – 96%) after a highly precise test with one short hook at the begin of the piaff-pirouette.
The fifth-placed rider got the second standing ovation in Aachen – the most successful rider ever, Isabell Werth and Quantaz; the combination, by the way, which claimed the Great Dressage Prize in 2021. The now 13-year old Quaterback-son had his best Aachen-performance in the freestyle and the technical degree of difficulty of Isabell’s freestyle is unrivalled sky-high. Therefore, it was a bit confusing that the judges gave marks for the degree of difficulty from 9,1 to 9,8 ‚only‘ – what do they want to see more? A looping? But Isabell was quite please with Quantaz and said after the test: „Well, he was a bit cooky in the last time and therefore, we had worked him in a way that he was better on the back and this has paid off. Now, we only have to eliminate the mistakes in the tempi changes and then everything is fine“. Seems to be easy……
The further ranking: Frederic Wandres and Bluetooth got a final result of 84,48%. Bluetooth seemed to be a tiny bit tired after the long Aachen-week with already two big tests. Oh, and during the chimes of a bell during the pirouettes, one immediately remembered another freestyle from a black stallion, claiming the Great Dressage Prize in Aachen in 2010.
With a final score of 84,25%, Sweden’s Therese Nilshagen and Dante Weltino finished on 7th place. This score is a personal best for this well-routined combination, but it came after a not totally faultfree test – the pirouette to the right (which was a double pirouette) didn’t work out as planned – four judges gave a 4 for this lection, only Edouard de Wolff van Westerode awarded a 7,5.
On the 8th place, Denmark’s Carina Cassoe Krüth followed with Danciera (81,975%), followed by her compatriot Andreas Helgstrand, who presented his impressive Jovian quite more relaxed than last year (81,670%). The top ten were completed by Sweden’s Patrik Kittel with Forever Young (81,210%).
Well, let’s look forward to the European championshps in September – it will be fascinating!
