A protest was held in front of Belarusian embassy in Armenia in light of blog writer Lapshin`s extradition
ArmInfo. In front of the Belarusian Embassy in Armenia a protest was held in the light of extradition of Russian-Israeli blog writer Alexander Lapshin to
Azerbaijan.
"The extradition to the state, Armed Forces of are using
ISIS methods to wage a war, is a serious strike to the free speech
and movement. We condemn the actions of Belarus as well as Armenia's
Foreign Ministry's inactivity. What is doing the Armenian Ambassador
in Belarus? We think the Ambassador should be withdrawn as well as
the Belarusian Ambassador should leave Yerevan", said the
Parliamentarian, the opposition bloc "Elc" member Edmond Marukyan to
journalists in front of the Embassy. He also recalled that a lot of
people, including politicians, journalists, cultural figures visited
Nagorno-Karabakh, but this event is a precedent from the point of
view of chasing those who were in Artsakh. In his turn, the
opposition Deputy Nicol Pashinyan, told the bloc's statement, "On
February 7, Minsk extradited the Russian-Israeli blog writer Lapshin,
to Bacu, where a criminal case is opened on the fact of "illegal"
visit to Nagorno Karabakh. In Bacu airport armed commandos wearing
masks, which had an obviously demonstrative line, accompanied Lapshin
as a dangerous criminal. "Elc" condemns the Belarusian Governments
actions, aimed at trampling on freedom of speech and movement of
citizens and finds the given action an insult to Armenian nation.
Moreover, the given action shows the formality of the alliance
between Armenia and Belarus in CSTO and EEU, and those relations can
not be a guaranty to Armenias security. "Elc" demands the Armenian
Authorities to withdraw its Ambassador and freeze the relations with
Belarus". Pashinyan also criticized the work of the Foreign Ministry
of Armenia. He noted that the extradition of Lapshin is a slap in the
face of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Eduard Nalbandian
and Serzh Sargsyan. "If we do not want the Armenian nation to get a
slap as well, the Belarusian Ambassador should leave Armenia, and our
Ambassador, in his turn, should return home", Pashinyan noted.
In front of the embassy of Belarus in Armenia gathered a few dozen
demonstrators who chanted "go", "free and sovereign Artsakh". None
came out to the demonstrators from the Embassy of Belarus, only
through <intercom" offered to put all the letters and offers in the
special embassy mailbox.
On February 7, the Supreme Court of Belarus rejected the appeal of the Russian-Israeli blogger Alexander Lapshin on the legality and validity of the decision of the Minsk City Court, which on January 26 this year upheld the decision of the Prosecutor General of Belarus to extradite him at the request of Baku. In the evening of the same day he was taken to Baku by special plane.
