USA will continue to cooperate with Russia and France on Karabakh settlement, Bridget Brink says
ArmInfo. US will continue
to cooperate with Russia and France on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh
settlement, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and
Eurasia Bridget Brink told journalists on November 17 commenting on
the possible changes in foreign policy of the country after Donald
Trump's election as US President.
Brink recalled that the USA will continue with the political line of
the incumbent President Barack Obama till January 20, 2017, followed
by a transitional period and only after that it will become clear
what program Trump has.
As for the South Caucasus the USA has been assisting the region for a
lot of years. The two Parties of the Congress-Republicans and
Democrats have performed consistent work assisting efforts of the
OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement,
Brink noted.
She also stated that Russia, France and the USA have worked jointly
for many years on the Karabakh settlement problem and this work has
been quite constructive. In this context she expressed assurance that
cooperation to that end will continue in future.
Touching upon the issue of status quo Brink stated that the US
considers that status quo is not stable and April events have
demonstrated that fact. Negotiations should be continued aimed at
reaching comprehensive settlement of the conflict. We think that the
settlement of the conflict will have positive impact on the entire
region, the representative of the US Secretary of State noted.
She also stressed that the US supports implementation of Vienna
agreements aimed at creating mechanisms for investigating incidents
and expanding mandate of Personal Representative of OSCE
Chairperson-in- Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk.
Ambassador James Warlick represents the US side in this issue and we
hope that progress will be reached in the nearest future, she noted.
