Parliament`s opposition factions invite foreign diplomats to closed meeting
ArmInfo. The "Armenia" and "I Have Honor" opposition factions of the National Assembly of the
Republic of Armenia invited representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country to a closed meeting. Secretary of the "Armenia" faction Artsvik Minasyan told reporters on May 2.
According to him, ambassadors and representatives of international
organizations from all those countries that finance reform programs
in Armenia, aimed, among other things, at developing democracy,
protecting human rights, ensuring the rule of law and forming a rule
of law state, have been invited to the meeting.
As the parliamentarian noted, the meeting will specifically be held
behind closed doors that there can be an open conversation. The
opposition wants to get a clear answer to the question of whether the
goal of foreign states and international organizations is to turn
Armenia into a police state with all its manifestations: from
political prisoners to the use of force against ordinary citizens.
"Why is such a meeting very important for us, especially now? Yes,
because based on the results of our meetings with foreign partners,
it seems that diplomats working in Armenia have practically no
control over the situation, or, at a minimum, were under the
influence of false information that representatives of the current
government, with the help of their satellites, are trying to convey
to international organizations," Artsvik Minasyan emphasized.
In turn, Tigran Abrahamyan, a representative of the "I Have Honor"
faction, added that recently a number of international organizations
in their reports indicate the use of violence against citizens of the
country and political opponents. For this reason, the opposition
wants to have a frank conversation in order to clarify the position
of representatives of the diplomatic corps on the processes taking
place in the country. In particular, the head of the EU mission in
Armenia, the head of the Council of Europe office, the ambassadors of
the USA, France, Germany, Great Britain and other countries were
invited to the meeting. As Abrahamyan noted, of course, The date of
the meeting has not been specified yet, as there is a need to
coordinate them. But in any case, it should be done as soon as
possible.
