Victor Soghomonyan: Robert Kocharyan will be acquitted and released - he still has to say his word in politics
ArmInfo. The criminal case against the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan on charges of overthrowing the constitutional system is fabricated, all this except as a vendetta, political and personal persecution, legal lawlessness, cannot be named an order. The current situation resembles the 37th year, and the methods of the investigative body are no different from the methods of the times of Beria. Head of the Kocharyan office Victor Soghomonyan stated this at a press conference today.
He congratulated the legal structures of Armenia in this regard, noting that the criminal case against Kocharyan had been brought before Soviet Azerbaijan. At the same time, Soghomonyan assured that Kocharyan will be released and justified in the very near future, and will say his weighty word in politics. "Kocharyan has no guilt at all, because he did not commit any crime, that's why he calmly appeared before the investigation, preferred to sit down and fight, rather than escape, which is inherent in criminals," Soghomonyan said. He stressed that lawyers will demand his immediate release and the termination of the criminal case and intend to protest all charges brought against them.
Concerning the accusations that Kocharyan tried to overthrow the constitutional system with the involvement of the army, Soghomonyan considered them absurd. "There is not a single proof of the direct participation of the army in the military operation, I say it with all responsibility, it was not." The opposition forces tried to involve the army in political processes, who at rallies announced their intention to overthrow the authorities and called for two acting deputy defense ministers Gagik Melkonyan and Manvel Grigoryan, who, by the way, directed the semi-military organization Yerkrapah, while Kocharyan's actions were aimed at preventing this process, which he himself recently announced, and which he managed to do after Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan signed 308 orders on the basis of which the accusation is based, but this order did not presuppose any actions by the army, except for switching to the barracks position. And it was after this order that Grigoryan and Melkonyan decided not to join the opposition and not interfere in political processes," Soghomonyan explained.
He also stressed that the investigation is aimed at not revealing the crimes of March 1, but neutralizing Kocharyan: "Otherwise, the investigation would not have engaged in falsification of the case about the nonexistent overthrow of the constitutional order, but would try to answer the question under what circumstances 10 people were killed on March 1 2008. After all, the society and relatives of the victims are interested in precisely this: for example, the police who used special means against the protesters, acted on their own, proceeding from the momentary circumstances, when, say, they threw a Molotov cocktail, or they did it on the orders of their commanders," Soghomonyan remarked. He also promised many interesting discoveries in the framework of this case, since they are not going to leave it that way. -
