Armenia applied to CSTO with proposal to start Secretary General replacement procedure
ArmInfo.Armenia appealed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization with a proposal to begin the procedure for the replacement of the CSTO Secretary General. Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Tigran Balayan told ArmInfo about this.
Balayan explained this by suggesting that in the framework of the criminal case being investigated in Armenia, a RA citizen who now holds the post of secretary general of the CSTO passes. "Attaching great importance to the authority of the Organization, to the issue of ensuring its natural activity, Armenia invited the CSTO partner countries to begin the procedure for the change of the secretary general." Armenia is true to its obligations to strengthen the CSTO and will continue to work together in this direction," Balayan said.
The CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov is a defendant in the case on March 1, 2008, he is charged with the overthrow of the constitutional order. On the eve of the night the court chose arrest as a preventive measure against Khachaturov. However, because he enjoys immunity as Secretary General of the CSTO, the court applied an alternative measure of restraint in the form of a pledge. The pledge was paid already this morning.
