Zakharova: Russia, along with other co-chairs of the MG, is making efforts to expand the OSCE observer mission in the Karabakh conflict zone
ArmInfo. Russia, with other countries co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement, actively supports the reduction of tensions on the line of contact and is making efforts to expand the mission of OSCE observers in the conflict zone. On January 31 at a weekly briefing said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
The Russian diplomat reminded that a significant part of the Russian president's meeting with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg in 2016 was devoted to this topic. It was also discussed during the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister last November to Baku and Yerevan, within the framework of the OSCE Several variants of documents regulating the activity of additional observers have been prepared. "At the meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries organized by the construction of the co-chairs held in Krakow on Jan. 18, the parties were provided with updated proposals, the ministers agreed in principle on the document prepared by the mediators, and some technical details remain to be resolved before the mechanism is launched expansion", noted Zakharova.
Speaking about the prospects for a peaceful settlement of the conflict, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry once again stressed that only the parties, having shown political will, can reach a compromise solution that will put an end to the present protracted conflict. "In October of last year, the Armenian and Azeri Presidents held a summit in Geneva, where the two leaders agreed to intensify the negotiation process, after which the ministers met twice and relevant statements were made." In the first ten days of February, the co-chairs plan to visit the region in order to clarify positions of the sides on problems and problem issues of the conflict," Zakharova concluded.
At the same time, answering the question whether the positive experience of cooperation of Russia, Iran and Turkey in Syria could serve to settle other regional problems, for example, the Karabakh, Zakharova, stressed that these are completely different conflicts. In her opinion, it is inappropriate to confuse or draw parallels between these two conflicts.
