Marketing of produces is a serious problem for Armenian farmers
The main problem in Armenia’s agricultural sector is the sale of products, Karen Chilingaryan, the head of the Center for Consumer Consultations, told ARKA.
“The Armenian market is small, and farmers have problems with selling their products. The biggest market for Armenia is Russia, and the only overland conduit passes through Georgia’s Upper Lars, which is closed or difficult to traverse nearly a third of the year," Chilingaryan said. According to him, there are also serious problems in the tax field and there is no insurance system.
"Some work is being carried out to solve these problems, but this sector is associated with high risks, because of which the insurance problem remains unresolved,’ added Chilingaryan on the sidelines of the Farmers' Congress, initiated by the Armenian office of Oxfam in collaboration with the agricultural Alliance of Armenia.
According to the National Statistical Service, Armenia’s agricultural output in 2016 amounted to 907.5 billion drams, a decline of 5.2% from the previous year. -- 0--
