Developer to build new residential building in Yerevan’s Kond quarter
A private developer chosen by the Yerevan Municipality is set to kick off construction of another apartment building in a downtown Yerevan quarter Kond- the oldest quarter in the Armenian capital city, in early spring, according to territorial administration minister Davit Lokyan.
Speaking at a Q&A session in the parliament Lokyan said that construction of the first high-rise building with 5,500 square meters of housing space was nearing completion. In his words, the municipality will grant permission for the construction of the second building this week.
According to the minister, the government is doing everything to provide housing for 109 families of Kond, who were not provided with new housing.
In 2007 Kond was recognized as an area of priority of public interest. In December of the same year, the Yerevan Municipality provided DownTown Yerevan developer the right to develop the area on condition that residents of the quarter, whose houses will be demolished, will be provided with apartments in the to-be built apartment buildings. Until now 1,500 residents of Kond are not provided with promised apartments. -0-
