Armenian prime minister orders a study to replace imported goods with locally-manufactured ones
At a Cabinet session today Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan gave 20 days to the heads of some government agencies to look into the possibilities of starting domestic production of goods which are being imported to the country now and present their proposals to the government.
"You should consider various mechanisms for domestic production of many goods which we import, including comparable goods, whose production may be more profitable and competitive here", Karapetyan was quoted by the government press office as saying.
He also said that market mechanisms should be used to secure demand for locally-manufactured goods .
According to him, the emphasis should also be placed on goods whose production in Armenia is profitable and competitive, but the production capacity of enterprises is limited.
In this regard, Karapetyan said the agencies should also examine the possibilities of attracting investment for the expansion of production capacities of local enterprises. -0-
