More Armenian officials will have to submit income statements – prime minister says
The number of Armenian officials, who will have to submit their income statements will be expanded, prime minister Karen Karapetyan told a Cabinet meeting today.
In particular, the prime minister proposed that the powers of the Commission on the Ethics of High-Ranking Officials be expanded to be vested also with the function of corruption prevention .
"It is also necessary to increase the level of accountability of law enforcement agencies engaged in combating corruption crimes as much as possible. There should be a law requiring that these bodies report annually to the public on what they did to fight against corruption," – Karapetyan said.
According to the prime minister, it is necessary to expand the list of persons who are required to submit income statements.
"Now, many officials - members of the government, MPs, police officers are required to submit income statements, however, there is a layer of people who are not included in the list, although they are engaged in the processes of the organization of large-scale public procurement. In other words, they are engaged in areas with very many corruption risks, "- Karapetyan said.
In this regard, he gave the justice minister three weeks to present proposals for expansion of the list of persons who will be required to file income statements.
The prime minister also ordered to arrange meetings with representatives of civil society, the opposition and all interested parties to learn their opinions on the revision of the principle of the formation and composition of the Anti-Corruption Council. -0-
