Aliyev’s latest remarks on Nagorno-Karabakh should be viewed as another failed attempt to turn the reality upside-down
Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev’s latest remarks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be viewed as another failed attempt to turn the reality upside-down and to distort the negotiation process, a spokesman for Armenian foreign ministry, Tigran Balayan said today.
In an interview with Russian RIA Novosti news agency Aliyev said that in the process of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict there may be a compromise on local self-government issues, on self-government of Nagorno-Karabakh. In the future, he said, if there is an agreement, it may become an autonomous republic.
”Aliyev himself cited the statements of the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries, which stipulate that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh will be determined through the legally binding expression of will of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh,’ Balayan said.
He added: ‘It would be better if the leadership of Azerbaijan ceases to delude itself and mislead its own public. A week ago the leader of Azerbaijan already publicly confessed the real essence of negotiations, stating that Baku is being urged to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.’-0-
