Emergency parliament session to discuss proposed changes to government’s structure
Armenia’s parliament will convene an emergency session on September 26 to look into a string of proposed structural changes in the new government of prime minister Karen Karapetyan, chief of government staff, David Harutyunyan, said today.
It has emerged today that the government is planning to reorganize four ministries. More precisely, the ministry of economy will be reorganized into the ministry of investment and business support, the ministry of energy and natural resources will be renamed the ministry of energy infrastructures and resources, the ministry of transport and communications will be reorganized into the ministry of transport, communications and information technology, and the ministry of urban development will be transformed into a committee.
Harutyunyan said also that the parliament will discuss a government-drafted tax code that will be presented for the second and third final readings. The lawmakers will also discuss a number of bills which have already been discussed by the parliament and adopted in the first readings.
Prime minister Karapetyan said: ‘We do not think that the proposed changes in the government structure are critical and neither consider them as an end in itself.’ According to him, there is a willingness to discuss all issues to choose the best possible model.
At the same time, he noted that if necessary additional changes will be made to the government based on its plan of actions. -0-
