Armenia in need of reforms in customs legislation
Armenia is in need of reforms in customs legislation, Gagik Aghajanyan, executive director of Apaven, a large freight company, said on Friday.
In his opinion, first of all transit shipment needs legislative changes, since this segment hobbles development of freight in Armenia.
He said that Armenia has found itself in a unique situation – neighboring Iran get rid of economic sanctions and is searching for new opportunities, and Russia, which is now under economic sanctions, is giving a searching look to India, China and Iran.
“Armenia, having a potential, particularly organizations that has ties, experience, specialists etc. should become a link among its neighbors,” Aghajanyan said.
Experts have spoken about it very much, he said, but the facts of Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and lifting sanctions from Iran themselves don’t ensure that freight stream will run through Armenia.
“We would have our own share in this huge volume of freight,” Aghajyanyan said. “We need certain quick step taken by the government and the private sector, which will enable us to take our niche.” -0----
