At its session December 24, the government approved a special procedure designed for the distribution of DVB-T2 decoders to socially disadvantaged families.
From January 1, 2016 some 25 TV channels will shift to digital television and terminate analogue broadcasting. Some categories of citizens will have to purchase new generation TV sets with built-in decoders or separate decoders the price of which ranges from 8,000 to 22,000 drams.
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of audio and video by digitally processed and multiplexed signal, in contrast to the totally analog and channel separated signals used by analog television.
Digital TV can support more than one program in the same channel bandwidth. It is an innovative service that represents the first significant evolution in television technology since color television in the 1950s. All countries are replacing or would replace broadcast analog television with digital television. -0-
