Armenia’s chairmanship in Eurasian Economic Union to give new impetus to Russia-Armenia interaction within union
Armenia’s chairmanship in the Eurasian Economic Union in the next year will give a new impetus to Russia-Armenia interaction within the integration union, Russian Federation Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin said on Friday.
He singled out Armenia’s accession to the union as a landmark event of 2015.
“Our countries have a rhythmic and intense dialogue this year,” he said summarizing the results of 2015. “High-level contacts played a major part in that. The heads of the governments, ministries and agencies were regular.”
Volynkin said that the two countries’ parliaments were intensively cooperating this year and ties between the countries regions became closer. Some 70 territorial entities of the Russian Federation and Armenia’s all provinces were involved in this cooperation.
In recent days, he said, 141 motor vehicles worth 130 million rubles were provided to Armenia’s customs service in accordance with an appropriate agreement between Russia and Armenia.
The ambassador stressed that the Eurasian Economic Union appeared and made its first steps in a challenging time, but movement forward is seen in all directions.
“Despite sanctions, trade turnover between the union countries is growing, an active process of legislation harmonization is under way in different provinces, the stream of parliamentary delegations, specialists and experts to Armenia is intensifying and interest of tourists, including Russian tourists, in Armenia is rising,” he said.
The Eurasian Economic Union started functioning on January 1, 2015. Its members are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. ---0-----
