Appointment of ex-Armenian PM as head of Eurasian economic commission to give push to development of its members' relations
Valentina Matvienko, the chairwoman of the Federation Council (the upper chamber) of the Russian parliament, praised today in Yerevan Armenia’s former prime minister Tigran Sargsyan (now serving as Armenian ambassador to USA) saying his appointment as chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the executive body of the Eurasian Economic Union, would give a new push to the deepening of relations within the Union.
Armenia will take over the rotating chairmanship of the trade bloc from January 1 next year.
'Tigran Sargsyan is a very experienced person, who stood at the origins of the Eurasian Economic Union. He will give a new push to the deepening of relations within the Union and the role of Armenia in the bloc" Matvienko, who has arrived today on a two-day visit to Armenia, told a press conference.
She said: ' We see clear progress in the development of economic cooperation, trade relations and constitutional co-operation. It is important that the Russian-Armenian relations are not just economic and trade relations," Matvienko said.
The Eurasian Economic Union, created on the basis of the Customs Union of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) to strengthen the economies of the participating countries, consists now of Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.-0-
