Armenia is again in red epidemiological zone
Due to the sharp rise in the daily number of confirmed new cases of Covid-19, Armenia once again found itself in an epidemically dangerous "red" zone by EU standards.
YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Due to the sharp rise in the daily number of confirmed new cases of Covid-19, Armenia once again found itself in an epidemically dangerous "red" zone by EU standards. This means that entry restrictions for Armenian citizens may be tightened, the Ministry of Health said today.
It said the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) is updating the list of epidemiologically safe countries every two weeks, taking into account the situation with Covid-19, the number of new cases and vaccination rates.
At the beginning of summer, Armenia moved from the “red” zone to the “green” one, but due to the rapid spread of the new Delta variant in just one month, Armenia is again considered unsafe from an epidemic point of view.
On Wednesday the European Union said it was removing Armenia and five other countries from its list of safe travel destinations, meaning visitors or people returning from those countries could face tighter controls such as COVID-19 tests or quarantine.
Armenian health officials have recorded so far 246,997 confirmed cases of Covid-19. According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the total tally of Covid-19 deaths is now 4,968.
In total, 1,594,150 coronavirus tests have been performed in the country of 3 million since March 1, 2020, when the first case was detected. Since then 230,820 patients have recovered, and 10,040 patients are being treated currently at hospitals and their homes.
On July 9, the government of Armenia extended the coronavirus quarantine for another six months until December 20, 2021.
The nationwide quarantine was first imposed on September 11, 2020 replacing the state of emergency that was declared on March 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus. -0-
