Direct investments from Armenia in Georgia double in six months
Direct investments from Armenia in the Georgian economy in the first half of 2017 nearly doubled year-on-year to $5.6 million, according to the National Statistics Service of Georgia.
According to Georgia's statistics, investments from Azerbaijan dropped by 20.3% year-on-year to the overall $224.18 million. Nonetheless, Azerbaijan remained the largest foreign investor in Georgia. The other largest investors were Turkey - $120.8 million (up 2.3 times), the UK - $111.6 million (up 13.5%), the Netherlands - $63.7 million (up 2.7 times) and the United Arab Emirates - $47.7 million.
Total foreign direct investment in Georgia in the first half of the year dropped by 5.4% year-on-year to $751 million, down from $1.56 billion in 2016. The bulk of investment was channeled into transport and communications sectors (36.1%), construction (16.6%), real estate (12.7%), financial sector (11.1%), and hotels and restaurants (6%).
