Jo Malone creates a fragrance collection with Zara

No, we can't believe our eyes either

Jo Malone has lent her nose and several decades of fragrance clout to high street fashion giant Zara to create the Zara Emotions Collection.

Launching in time for our weekend shopping fix, this is definitely one collaboration we can’t wait to get our hands on.

Not least because Malone’s perfumery skills are iconic; her candles and colognes like Pomegranate Noir cemented in the fragrance hall of fame.

After selling Jo Malone London to Estee Lauder Companies, Malone founded Jo Loves in 2011, a fragrance line that quickly became known for ground-breaking quirky creations like perfume paint brushes.

Now Malone is set to change the fragrance world again with the Zara Emotions Collection, a debut collection of eight fragrances, all designed to elevate the bar for the high street perfume market.

So banish any preconceptions you may have of sickly cheap perfume – each fragrance in the Zara Emotions Collection has got Malone’s recognisable signature wafting through it.

For the past 12 months, Malone has been ensconced in the Zara fashion archives, past and present, to get inspiration for the  scents.

And they don’t disappoint.

The Zara Emotions Collection Vetiver Pamplemousse has notes of grapefruit, mandarin and vetiver, which come together to conjure up what Malone describes as  ‘a crisp white cotton shirt layered with citrus cologne, an everyday accessory for me.’

Each season you’re guaranteed that one Zara tea dress will break the internet.  Now Waterlily Tea Dress will become the perfect accessory to wear with it. A blend of bergamot, spearmint and musk makes you think of a lazy summer day, ‘jazz music plays softly in the background, picnics on the lawn, a vintage tea dress floats by in the gentle breeze,’ according to Malone.

Alternatively, Ebony Wood represents ‘freedom and care-free adventures’, thanks to its peppercorn and clove undertones and Tubereuse Noir is ‘commanding’.

Amalfi Sunray is everything you’d expect from a bright citrus whereas Fleur de Patchouli is ideal for days when you want a nuzzly, understated fragrance.

Fleur D’Oranger is a safe combination of citrus and floral if you’re thinking of buying a scent from the Zara Emotions Collection for someone else.

Malone’s personal favourite, however, is Bohemian Bluebells. ‘I have never made a scent quite like this,’ she says of her lavender, sandalwood and musk creation. In fact, she claims it to be ‘unlike anything you’ve ever smelt before.’

At a purse-friendly £25.99 each, and original not designer dupes, these kind of high-end perfumes aren’t what you’d expect to find on the high street. But isn’t that the point?
