Armenian-Iranian trade turnover at extremely low level - Arsen Ghazaryan
Armenian-Iranian trade turnover is about US $290m, which is an extremely low figure, Arsen Ghazaryan, President of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia (UMBA), stated at an Armenian-Iranian business convention in Yerevan.
In this context, he noted that Armenia’s trade turnover with Turkey, which is Armenia’s neighbor, but not friend, is nearly the same, even with closed borders.
This fact makes Armenia and Iran think of expanding their relations.
Mr Ghazaryan points out favorable conditions for production and re-entry to market in Armenia. In this context, Iranian companies will benefit by entering international markets with products branded “Made in Armenia.”
“So let us not miss this chance,” he said.
Talking to reporters, Mr Ghazaryan said that Armenia is a transit country for Iran. However, Iran needs an efficient alternative connection with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and European states.
“The new EEU draft customs law is much simpler. We have experience and we receive orders for transportation from Moscow to Tehran and vice versa,” Mr Ghazaryan said.
