‘Ludicrous’: Kelly says he wasn’t bashing 49ers’ personnel
Chip Kelly’s postgame comments on his passing game Sunday were interpreted by some as a slam on the roster constructed by 49ers general manager Trent Baalke.
[...] when you get into a game where you’ve got to throw it every single down, we don’t have that type of lineup.
Kelly’s review of his offensive personnel today didn’t mention his wide receivers, who combined for four catches and 52 yards on 15 targets Sunday.
After the game, Kelly seemed to be referencing his underwhelming wideout corps as he detailed the difficultly of trailing by multiple scores early in the fourth quarter.
With Torrey Smith sidelined with a shoulder injury, Kelly said Sunday the 49ers didn’t have a wide receiver who could attract double-coverage.
Harper, a 2015 undrafted free agent who was promoted from the practice squad on Nov. 8, entered Sunday with one career reception.
Kelly was asked if that was evidence of a lack depth at the position.
