River State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) has been defeated in court by a university student named Jane Ottah.
Jane was the student who was expelled in 2015 for having “speech and hearing challenges” by RSUST.
After she was expelled, Jane Ottah, 28, dragged the university management before a Rivers State High Court. She sued the institution for expelling her, because of her disability.

The case has however been settled in an out-of-court agreement between the University management and the student.
The expelled student demanded a payment of N20 million as damages from the University along with other benefits such as provision of necessary support facilities to aid her learning process, with a demand for a perpetual injunction restraining the university or their agents from discriminating against her in any way.
According to Premium Times, she won the case and said: “I won the case, I’m going back to school.”
The defense counsel, Rotimi Oguneso, a senior advocate of Nigeria, said over the phone on Wednesday, July 20: “We filed terms of settlement in court and same was adopted, the court recognized it as a settlement and it’s binding on all parties.”
So the university will take her back, she’s resuming in the next academic session.”
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) elected a new president recently.
Mr Obasi was born to the family of Ogbonnaya Obasi on April 27, 1987, in Ugoni Okposi, Ohaozara LGA Ebonyi state.
He attended Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Staff Primary School (1993-1999), Federal Government College Okposi (1999-2005) and Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana (2005-2010) where he became the Director of Socials.
