Clinton's veepstakes heats up ahead of rumored Friday announcement
Amid the chaos of this week's Republican National Convention, presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has been quietly mulling over her running mate candidates. At the top of the shortlist are reportedly Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, both of whom would bring extensive political experience to the ticket; both men also hail from important states, as Vilsack was a two-term governor of Iowa before joining the Obama administration.
Also rumored to be a strong contender is first-term New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, the former Newark mayor, who has been an avid Clinton supporter. Housing Secretary Julián Castro, Labor Secretary Thomas Perez, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren have also been mentioned.
Clinton's decision could come as soon as Friday.
