The inspector general of police Ibrahim Idris on Thursday, July 21, issued a fresh directive over the killing of a monarch in Plateau state.
Idris ordered that the deputy inspector general of police in charge of operations Joshack Habilla relocate to Plateau state from the force headquarters.
A Plateau state monarch chief Lazarus Agaie alongside his wife, son and police orderly were killed on Monday, July 18, on their way back from their farm.
They were reportedly killed by some Fulani herdsmen who had invaded the community.
His death created chaos in the community which also led to a police imposed curfew in the area.
But the inspector general of police has said that those behind the killing of Agaie who was also the traditional ruler of Bokkos traditional council will be brought to justice.
The police spokesperson Dan Anwunah in a statement said: “The Nigeria Police will leave no stone unturned in arresting the culprits, but need the collaboration of everyone with useful information, without over heating the already tensed insecurity challenges the country is going through. He assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police under his watch will ensure decency in the polity.”

Awunah added that the inspector general of police is not only worried about the killings but also worried about the reprisal attacks which led to the death over more people.
He called on all aggrieved parties to be patient with the police throughout the investigation period on the matter.
Over some years, killing by herdsmen have led to reprisal attacks and destruction of lives and property in various communities across Nigeria.
While some states have begun establishment of grazing reserves for these herdsmen to quell their activities and invasion of people farmlands, the federal government have also said that most of the herdsmen are not Nigerians but foreigners from Chad, Mali, Senegal among others.
