Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has revealed his plans for the future, saying he has no plans of contesting for any position after his tenure expires in 2018.
Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti recently, the governor said for him to return as governor eight years after he was impeached shows he has virtues others don’t have, Tribune reports.
Governor Ayodele Fayose said he won’t contest for anything after the expiration of his tenure
Asked if he wants to become the vice president, he replied: “That is a different issue. Even the governorship position that I am occupying now, it is God’s will for me. I have never seen a man come back after eight years. So, who knows what will happen tomorrow? If you want me to become vice president, it is only God that will make such happen. And you should realise that nobody vies for the office of the vice president. It is only providence that can put you there. They started talking about vice president when I was just barely a year in office. How can you be eating and still be looking into the pot? I want to tell you that even after this position, I am not contesting for anything. I am not going to the Senate like most of my colleagues.”

Fayose said when his tenure draws to an end, he will present three or four candidates who will succeed him before the people to make a choice.
According to him, there is no one who is part of the process of the emergence of a candidate who will not vote for him in the governorship election.
He said his continuous castigation of President Muhammadu Buhari is not personal, adding that there were times he has commended the president for some of his actions.
The governor said: “When Dr Goodluck Jonathan was president, as bad as you may want to paint him, the exchange rate was at N220 to the dollar, look at what it is today. Even if you want to buy newsprint for your newspapers, how do you do that? How do you pay your children’s school fees?
“What I am saying about Buhari is not personal because he did not take my wife. During Jonathan’s time, some of our leaders insulted him, but heavens did not fall and he didn’t muscle them. It is the same presidency and the same power. So, we must all fight for a Nigeria that all of us would be proud of. If you are looking at my issue with the president on a personal note, tomorrow, most of you will be proud that I stood up to be counted.”

On the leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he said direction has never been an issue for the party because they had the president, good leadership, but the party lost direction and leadership and everybody has become a lord.
The Ekiti governor noted that a lot of people were members of the party because of the benefits they derived at the time the party was in power.
He said he chose Ali Modu Sheriff as the party’s chairman because he is a former two-term governor and a former senator, so he felt that did the right thing.
Fayose said: “If you look at his antecedents and all he has been doing, you will ask: is this a life and death issue?
Asked whether he has tried to reach out to Sheriff since the crisis started, the governor said: “No! I can’t because I am a very straightforward man. When I realise the facts in an issue, I step back. You cannot talk to somebody who doesn’t want to see reasons.”
Fayose’s account was recently frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes commission. Shortly after, the governor claimed the Aisha Buhari, the first lady of the country was involved in the infamous Halliburton corruption scandal.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari cannot say he is free of corruption too as his wife is named in a bribery case involving a convicted former U.S. lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.
In a swift response, Aisha denied the allegation, threatening to sue him if he doesn’t retract his statement within five days.
Her threats fell on deaf ears as the governor refused to retract his statement and insisted he was right about his allegation.
In a court summons, dated July 20, 2016, Aisha formally dragged Fayose to court for maligning her name.
