Big Brother bonk stars return
“Shower sex couple” Mandla and Lexi’s reality TV show gets a second season, with a more individual focus.
|||Mandla Hlatshwayo and Lexi van Niekerk are a force to be reckoned with. They started as individuals in a season of Big Brother Mzansi and hooked up on the show, making them the people’s favourite. A clever production company saw the potential in that and signed them up for their own TV show.
Titled Mandla and Lexi, the reality show took off where Big Brother Mzansi ended. It was intriguing to see the couple whom everyone thought would never make it show South Africa and their fans that they had a whole lot more to give.
He got a job as a presenter and with his winnings from Big Brother Mzansi, now deals in real estate.
She took acting classes and received a few opportunities to host local TV shows.
So in both cases they had a lot of content to show off as individuals and, as usual when they are together, things are even better.
So that season came and went. There were so many people who watched and it makes sense for Mzansi Magic to bring back the show for a second season.
As usual, when there is a celebrity couple, their fans give them a joint name – like “KimYe” for Kanye and Kim. Our couple is now known as “MandLexi” and that has helped with their branding.
What is interesting about the couple is that Mandla is cool, calm and collected. He speaks when he is spoken to and seldom has long conversations. He is just laid-back.
Lexi, on the other hand, is a firecracker. Yes, she can be sweet, but she is that girl you do not mess with, so those “hot-cold” dynamics that the pair bring before the camera make for good TV.
“The audience has fallen in love with our journey, but season 2 may have some surprises in store for viewers as there’s also a strong focus on the two of us as individuals this time,” said the outspoken Lexi.
This comes after the TV personality made the Top 12 of the Mzansi’s Sexiest list. This means that Mzansi Magic is showing her story while she is in her prime so there will be interest in another season of Mandla and Lexi.
“Reality formats are extremely popular on our TV screens and Mzansi Magic always aims to bring viewers the best. Mandla and Lexi season one was well received by viewers, so why not bring the most-talked about couple back for a second season?” said Sphumelele Sibeko, head of reality for local entertainment channels at M-Net.
Mandla and Lexi 2 airs on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161), July 13 at 8pm.
