Gohar Ghumashyan has nothing to do with charges brought against her - lawyer
ArmInfo. Gohar Ghumashyan has nothing to do with the charges brought against her. Armen Feroyan, the lawyer for Gohar Ghumashyan, a member of the Strong Armenia party detained by the Anti-Corruption Committee, told reporters.
He noted that he is dealing with an entirely unlawful criminal prosecution, which is nothing less than political persecution. When such persecution affects the parent of a child requiring special maternal care, Feroyan said, it is more than concerning (Gohar Ghumashyan has three minor children, the youngest of whom is less than two months old).
According to the lawyer, charges have now been filed, and the issue of sending the materials to court for pretrial detention is being considered. "I can't speculate on the principles they will base their decision on regarding whether to file a motion for arrest, especially since the child needs to be fed every three hours and requires special maternal care," Feroyan said. He also mentioned that Ghumashyan has refused to testify at this stage, citing physical illness and plans to discuss the situation thoroughly with her lawyers, before providing a detailed testimony.
"Essentially, she has nothing to say about the charges brought against her, since she has nothing to do with them," Feroyan stated.
It should be noted that several hours ago, Gohar Meloyan, a representative of the Strong Armenia party, reported that her fellow party member, Gohar Ghumashyan, had been arrested. Meloyan pointed out the absurdity of the charges brought against her colleague, calling the situation yet another manifestation of the Armenian authorities' fear.
