Yonder Alonso out of A’s lineup again, bench will be thin

Alonso, who leads the majors with nine homers this month, said that he will do defensive work and try to throw before Friday night’s game, but he will not take regular batting practice.

The fact that the first baseman isn’t taking batting practice indicates he’s unlikely to play Friday unless there is an emergency; however, Alonso said it was possible that he would be cleared to be available off the bench.

With starters Kendall Graveman and Jesse Hahn both likely to land on the DL in the next day or two - Graveman has shoulder soreness and Hahn a triceps strain and neither is with the team - the A’s could have added at least one more position player Friday but did not do so.
