3 homes burn, about 10 evacuated in Fairfield fire
Three Fairfield homes caught fire Friday afternoon, prompting officials to evacuate at least 10 homes in the area after a grass fire at a nearby homeless encampment spread to the neighborhood, police said.
Fairfield Police announced evacuations in the 200 block of Santa Barbara Way were under way shortly before 5 p.m. as the fire spread to houses along the street.
Flames spread from the grass to a fence, a shed, then the three homes, said Sgt. Matt Bloesch, a Fairfield Police spokesman.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, police said.
