Armenia is preparing to apply for European Union membership

Tengrinews.kz — Armenia will begin preparing an application for European Union membership, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced while presenting the government's program to parliament today, citing Armenia Today.

Pashinyan recalled that in March 2025, the Armenian parliament passed a law to initiate the EU accession process. According to him, once the application is filed, Yerevan expects a response and a roadmap from the EU, after which further steps can be determined.

The Prime Minister also stated that a referendum on European integration will definitely be held in Armenia. However, he emphasized that the vote should not be the beginning, but rather a key stage of the process once the prospects for the country's entry into the European Union are clear.

Pashinyan described the pursuit of European integration as part of a policy to create alternatives for Armenia. The existence of such alternatives is a matter of national security, he added, as their absence allows other countries to impose their decisions on Yerevan.
