Couple from Germany died in an accident near Astana
A married couple from Germany was killed in a traffic accident on August 10 at the 97th kilometer of the Astana-Petropavlovsk highway in the Akmola region. The regional police department provided details of the accident, with reference to sinegor.kz.
Earlier, it was reported that a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and a GAZ-53 collided near Astana. Two passengers of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter died in the crash. Seven other passengers from the same vehicle, as well as one passenger from the GAZ-53, sustained various injuries and were transported to a medical facility.
It has since emerged that the deceased were a husband and wife from Germany. The man was in the front passenger seat; rescuers had to extricate his body from the vehicle. The woman died later in the hospital from multiple injuries. Their nine-year-old daughter survived the crash, sustaining injuries for which she was hospitalized.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway regarding the accident. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A procedural decision will be made following the results of the investigation.
