World Cup Sevens dates fixed
The 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens held in San Francisco will take place from July 20-22, organisers confirmed Friday.
A statement from USA Rugby said the event would be held over three days in the heart of San Francisco.
The 24-team men's tournament and 16-team women's competition will take place at AT&T Park, the home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team.
The Rugby World Cup Sevens has been held every four years since 1993, with previous venues including Edinburgh, Hong Kong, Mar del Plata, Dubai and Moscow.
New Zealand are the reigning men's and women's sevens world champions.
World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont said the sport's governing body hoped to build on the introduction of sevens rugby at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"The success of rugby sevens at last year's Olympic Games in Rio gave the game a huge shot in the arm and we are working hard to ensure its popularity continues to rise in the coming years," Beaumont said.
"This will be the first time the RWC Sevens has been held in North America and I know rugby fans in the USA and also in Canada are really looking forward to it," he added.
