Ernst, Yin to make Solheim Cup debuts
Austin Ernst and Angel Yin will both make their Solheim Cup debuts for the United Staes as captain?s wild card selections at Des Moines Country Club in Iowa from August 18-20.
Ernst, whose only LPGA tour win came in the 2014 Portland Classic, and Yin, a powerful 18-year-old from California, were chosen by captain Juli Inkster for the defence of the trophy on Sunday at the conclusion of the Women's British Open.
European skipper Annika Sorenstam had four choices and selected Caroline Masson, Anna Nordqvist, Emily Pedersen and Madelene Sagstrom.
Denmark's Pedersen and Sagstrom are both rookies, while Masson secured her place with a tie for third in the British Open.
Des Moines is the 15th staging of the Solheim Cup. The USA lead 9-5 although Europe won for the first time on US soil in Colorado four years ago.
"Austin nearly made the team last year, and Angel has been on the radar for a long time," said Inkster.
"I'm bringing two rookies, but I have a lot of confidence in them."
Sorenstam admitted she is proud to be leading Europe.
"I feel I have a great team. We can't wait to get there in a week's time."
