Tokayev invites German Chancellor to Kazakhstan
Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit Kazakhstan on a state visit in 2027. The Head of State made the announcement at a joint press conference following talks in Berlin.
The question was asked by Jibek Joly TV journalist Dilnaz Yerlanova. She noted that Kazakhstan and Germany will mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year and asked Tokayev to assess the path the two countries have taken and the prospects for further cooperation.
Speaking about the development of relations with Germany, Tokayev highlighted the results achieved over the years.
“We assess the path we have taken quite highly. As is well known, the road is mastered by walking it. We have traveled a fairly difficult path and achieved great success. Germany, as you know, enjoys great respect in our country. We love and respect this country and duly appreciate its achievements, above all in the economy, as well as in other areas. Germany is a highly respected state on the international stage.”
The President also spoke about the results of his visit to Germany.
“That is why I came with high expectations and great hope of reaching new agreements with this country. And we have reached these agreements. Now the task is to properly implement and fulfill them. Therefore, my outlook for the future is quite positive. I am fully confident that we will achieve even greater success, because both sides have the desire to do so.”
Tokayev then spoke about the invitation he had extended to the Federal Chancellor.
“During the talks, I said that we are expecting Chancellor Merz on a state visit at any time convenient for him next year. We will prepare for this visit. After all, visits are not made simply for the sake of visiting, but in order to reach new agreements and mutual understanding on the most difficult issues.”
The Head of State added that such mutual understanding had been achieved both during the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and during the talks with Friedrich Merz.
“I am grateful for the hospitality extended to me here. All my expectations were met, and we will, of course, continue working to develop relations and cooperation with this great country — Germany.”
