[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Bacone brings home meet event winners and numerous records at ...
The Bacone track team went to Pittsburgh State Invitational in Pittsburgh, Kansas with high expectations. The highlights started when Dymond White won the women's weight throw with a mark of 17.34 meters (56-10 ¾) which was over 2 feet better than her closes competitor. Dymond improved her national qualifying mark from last weekend and it currently ranks her 3rd in the nation in the weight throw. The performances continued through out the day as freshman Maddison McGhee set a school record in the women's mile with a time of 5:44.74 which was a personal best time by sixteen and half seconds to place 27th overall. She would come back later in the evening to team up with Marciana Reaws, Nancy Jurado and Brittnay Curley as the quartet set a school record in the women's distance medley relay with a time of 14:30.15
The men also had numerous great performances as Shawvan Levi started it with a personal best by 9.46 seconds with a time of 8:54.37 in the 3k to place 6th overall in the unseeded section. Freshman Ilijah Coleman continued to show great promise as he won his heat in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 1:56.48 which was just short of national qualifying. Ilijah broke the indoor 800 meter school record previously held by Kurt Corbie in 2013. Senior Jackson Thomas continued his winning ways from cross country season with him winning the mile in a time of 4:04.36 which ranks him 1st in the nation. By doing this Jackson set a personal best by 9.69 seconds and broke the school record and set a facility record to go along with a meet record. The next group was sprinters Maurice Harris and Andra Richardson to set the track on fire. Maurice would run the 60m dash in a time of 7.27 which would match his time from the previous week to show consistency. Look for Maurice to have a break out performance in two weeks. Andra Richardson would run the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.82 to place 33rd overall and set an indoor personal best by almost 2 seconds. The men would end the night with the quartet of Eduardo Ra, Andra Richardson, Ilijah Coleman and Jackson Thomas winning the distance medley relay in a time of 10:10.54 to set a new school record and seal a trip to nationals for them. The time currently ranks them 5th in the nation. The team has a weekend off and will be back to Pittsburgh State on February 10th and 11th.
