Chelsea fans can’t wait for vote on scrapping VAR as Blues have controversial penalty overturned at Brighton
FED-UP fans saw VAR rule out a shocking penalty awarded to Chelsea.
Viewers are glad that Premier League clubs will now vote on whether video replays stay next season after a farcical incient at Brighton.
Referee Michael Salisbury stunned almost everyone by giving a penalty when Seagulls’ defender Facundo Buonanotte seemed to clearly win the ball against old boy Marc Cucurella.
But before the Blues could take the spot-kick VAR intervened to overturn the penalty award – and rescue Salisbury.
He watched the tackle on a pitch-side monitor – and reversed his verdict.
But he then gave Brighton a goal kick when the ball appeared to have gone off one of their players.
Chelsea fans also claimed Tariq Lamptey escaped a red for an “elbow on Mykhailo Mudryk.
One responded: “’No conclusive evidence’. VAR isn’t the problem. It’s the officials behind the screen who are the problem in England.”
Another posted: “Var continues to be a joke vs Chelsea btw.”
And a third wrote: “Two VAR checks/decisions have gone against Chelsea in this first half.”
Cucurella, who was regularly booed, teed up Cole Palmer for the Blues’ opener on 22 minutes – his 22nd goal of the season.
