India planning SOPs for negotiating free trade agreements
India is considering establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for negotiating free trade agreements (FTAs) as it engages with various trade partners. A two-day 'Chintan Shivir' by the commerce ministry will gather former commerce secretaries, industry experts, and officials to discuss FTA strategy and SOPs. The event will cover topics like India's trade strategy, economic assessment of FTAs, inclusion of new disciplines, and leveraging FTAs for addressing new challenges. This is significant as India is negotiating several trade pacts and has seen record exports in recent years.
