Watch the moment mum tries to relive Southend childhood but the ferris wheel becomes most terrifying moment of her life
SHE was just trying to relive her childhood by taking her son to Southend.
But Chloe’s trip to Adventure Island didn’t go to plan, as she was instead left fearing for her and her two-year-old’s lives when the door swung open on the City Wheel ride.
Chloe revealed what had happened in a video on her TikTok page, as she began: “Yesterday was one of the scariest days of my life. I genuinely have nightmares like this, so if you’re scared of heights etc, skip this post!”
She went on to say she’d decided to “face my irrational fear of heights” by taking her son on the big wheel.
Her little boy was the “first to notice the door was open” but as they’d already taken off, it was “too late” to alert someone to the situation.
“The lock is on the outside so that you can’t open from inside and it sticks out so I couldn’t completely shut and secure the door closed,” Chloe added.
She quickly moved her son to the other side of the basket, where he couldn’t fall out, but when they were “high up in the air”, the door “literally blew wide open”.
Showing a panoramic shot over Southend, Chloe added: “This is how high up we were with the open door the ENTIRE TIME.”
“I had to hold the door shut the whole time whilst also trying to stop him from moving and keep calm (after crying and nearly being sick from anxiety),” she said.
She did her best not to panic her little boy, but FaceTimed her mum to explain what was happening.
Chloe was eventually able to flag to one of the ride workers what had happened, and they stopped to get her and her son off the ride.
She said that they called over their team leader, who apparently advised her to report the situation to customer service.
However, Chloe alleged that when she spoke to customer service, they simply apologised, and gave her details as to how she could make a formal complaint, which she’s now in the process of doing.
In the caption of the video, Chloe wrote: “I can’t believe this happened.
“I’m filled with anxiety even re-watching this my heart is pounding.
“0/10 experience do not recommend!
“I’m sad this happened cos Southend is one of my favourite places, I have so many happy childhood memories here but trying to recreate them with my son was an epic fail to say the least.”
Adventure Island has been contacted for comment.
“This literally turned my stomach,” one person commented on the video.
“This could have ended so badly! Glad you’re both safe.”
“I know thank God,” Chloe replied.
“Omg!!!! Did they not have an emergency button on the inside for you to press?!” someone else asked.
“I’d be terrified! Well done for holding it together!”
“Nothing at all,” Chloe replied.
“I was trying to get their attention but it was too late – we were out of sight the whole way until we came back down.”
